“Dreams in God”

“Dreams in God”

If you want a piece of heaven
You will end up with a lot of hell
There are no pieces of the divine
Only wholeness

You have that dream inside you
That fetter, that chain, that swinging sword
Never enough time
Never enough rhyme
Only the pasture as a state of mind
Only the desert, for your daily grind
You cannot escape how bright it gets
You cannot survive the haunt of its shadow

The fire next time
The water this time
The rain heavy on the mind
The lightning in frightened state
An equal argument on every side
And you in the middle
Struggling with the idea of who you are
And what that means on the face of the planet
Or the Face of your own life
You struggle with the weight of this thing you must create
It eggs you on through desperate nights
And makes a sun in daylight
This feeling:
I am more, I am more
Falls at the touch of common reality

But do not be afraid
Reality is not destiny
Things will not always be in the shade
We are living in those shadow lands of the past
And the future is eternity

If you want a piece of heaven
You will end up with a lot of hell
There are no pieces of the divine
Only wholeness
