Proverbs 4
H,
Well, you make a fair and indisputable point there. We are reaching for the stars but we are still fixed
to the earth by gravity. We are not many or any of the things we know we ought
to be. That is part of the process, though. That realization is where wisdom
starts. That we are far away from the very image or reality of God is not in
question. We have the inner witness but we know we must get to the outer
flourishing.
Still, I think it is unhealthy
to focus on ourselves as the focal point of our own salvation. There is a
certain stewing in the mire of guilt that does no good to anyone and will not
lift the common soul. There is nothing to do but give it up and I say that as
simple but not easy. It is simple because it is a straight choice. It is hard
because we have come a long way being one way and to change direction is always
a difficult task. The mere mental task of thinking of changing our way or ways
is enough to stifle the first step. We do not change direction as much as we
stop and fall down. Humility is the primary trait of wisdom.
So many things in modern Christianity
do not work because we have mistaken shyness for humility and cowardice for
meekness. We have taken servitude to man for service in God and replaced the
order of things in obedience and love to each other to a political wasteland
where men and women baring dubious talents and titles purport to tell their
fellow strugglers how to live. These are merely prisons and not temples of God.
The temple of God is now the human soul and when we gather together, in His Name
and Nature, it is an assemblage of various temples of God in various states of
repair. As the song says, we are constantly in repair. We are not yet quite
fixed but it is fine because time is now eternal and we will get there full and
not empty.
So, there is no need to
crawl on the floor in endless guilt or to stand on the heads of others in manipulative
flair. We belong to each other. We are part of that same body and we should be
lighting the way in love as we all grow brighter and brighter toward one
perfect day.
