Isaiah 61:4-7

H,
There is nothing bigger than the thing God wants you to do. This is a fact. There is nothing grander than the idea God has for you. It does not advertise itself in grandeur but it will surpass anything the limited mind can think up and anything the limited heart can dream of. We are focused on the temporal statues of greatness while God is pushing us towards the unending wells of influence. We want to be in history books while He wants us to be the books through which all human history is read. There is a large wall between the idea you have of yourself and the real being God thought up at the start of you. One is a shadow and the other is the sun.

I remember when we first saw the movie “Bruce Almighty”. The thing that bothered me the most was that the main character was given all the powers of God and all he wanted to be was a better reporter of the news, a better lover, and a better version of all his present reality. It did not seem to occur to him that these powers had an overlying weight into all of eternity’s streams. In resolving the plot, the point was made that one had to be unselfish and particular and content. Fine principles but not the sort of things you need omniscience or omnipotence to learn. There is a dearth of imagination of what any of us would do if we had the full colour of deity in us.
Perhaps this is all earth is. The school to encounter the contrast between knowing, being, becoming, experiencing and finally coming alive. This is of course a gross simplification. There is too much unabridged suffering in the world to just peg it all down to a lesson in spiritual manners. It is more accurate to say that these two streams run together: the immediacy of our mission in life and the expanding nature of the kingdom of God coming alive in our individual souls.

“Power.”

B. All this power has to be subject to higher principles. What good does it do anyone if we can do only what we want? What good does it ...
