We have been trained to
think that way. We believe honestly that we are doing some good in the world
and forget how harmful idealism can be. It is not that there is no standard for
conduct and we should let everything burn. It is not even that there is no such
thing as a right way of thinking and a wrong way of acting. It is just that the
human soul in present state cannot live up to his or her own foolish words.
Now, perhaps I am being too
rash and too unscientific. There are seven billion people on the planet and I have
not met most of them. I should rephrase. All the women and all the men I have
met do not meet up with the idealism they profess. On any level. I include
myself in that number. We are a church and a community in this very intimate
sense. The more idealistic they are, the wider the cracks and the deeper the
moss when the soul is truly examined. We were made to be creatures of the
ideal, I think. We are not often seen living these ideals out to their fullest
manifestations, I know for sure.
This is all fine. It is not
the end of the conversation and I am not being down on what it is to be human. We
should recognise our humanity. We should embrace it. It is a lovely sort of
freedom to know you do not live up to what you say.
It is the sort of freedom
where the renaissance of God truly starts.
