There is only one person we
are made to be like. There is only one soul worthy of imitation, emulation and,
finally, sublimation. We are not going to be any better at being ourselves because
we are not meant to be merely ourselves. Being honest is only valid when it
leads to truth. Honesty is a tool of inquiry, a path of discovery but it is not
the discovery itself.
We have present human forms
but this is not the end of the story. We were made for so much more. We were
made to be “gods, sons and daughters of the most high” even though we often “die
like men”. We are in process as well as in repair.
This is key to understanding
why it does not ring true to simply follow your gifts and nothing else. To follow
your dreams and nothing else. To be true to yourself and nothing else. We have
been told already, gifts are nothing without character, dreams are nothing
without character, believing in yourself is nothing without character and this
character we speak of is love.
We are made for more. We are
even made for more than ourselves.
